An act of kindness led to a business opportunity

Hello friends - my name is David Moya and I am the founder and owner of Above the Grind, LLC. We are a local family owned and operated landscaping business dedicated to serving the Conroe, Montgomery, Magnolia, The Woodlands and Spring communities. Since age 12, landscaping has always fascinated me, and throughout time I’ve been part of exciting and transformational landscape projects.
After purchasing our first home, I gradually began owning commercial-grade landscape equipment to reduce the time of my Saturday-lawn duties and enjoy my weekends with family. On one hot summer day, I saw my neighbor, Jimmy, struggling with mowing his lawn. He is a senior who had back surgery and his limitations created a challenge to maintain his yard. As I watched, I remembered what my father taught me, “When you see an opportunity to help, jump in and just do it.” I drove my zero-turn into Jimmy’s yard and took care of it. Jimmy couldn't believe his eyes and couldn’t stop thanking me for helping. When I went inside the house, my wife encouraged me to turn my passion, skillset, and years of experience into a business. So as every thriving husband would attest, I listened, and today she and I continue building Above the Grind, to its full potential.

What started as an act of kindness, Above the Grind evolved into a lawn care & maintenance business in year one. In our second year, we took on larger landscape projects. And now, with the help of my wife, we’ve transformed Above the Grind into a premium landscaping business offering various services such as premium lawn care, landscaping design, hardscaping, clean up’s, tree services, pressure washing and fencing solutions.

Being a business owner has taught us many lessons. Some lessons have been tough, but always grateful for the uplifting friendships of other entrepreneurs that surround us and the never-ending guidance of our Heavenly Creator.

Texas native who grew up in Spring, TX and graduated from Spring High School in 2005. Obtained a Bachelors degree in Business Management and certified in landscape & design. Father of 2 boys and teaching his bloodline the essence of hard, diligent, and honest work.

Alejandra L. Moya, Designer | Co- Owner
Originally from Honduras, Alejandra (Ale) moved to the U.S. in 2010. Ale has become a true Texan at heart and patriotic of the endless blessings available in the U.S. Mother of 2 boys, she devotes her life to her family and has always supported her husband’s endeavors. Ale serves as the Designer and Project Manager for all of Above the Grind’s projects. She brings color, culture and different variations of landscape attributes to every project.
